{recipe} Easy Homemade Cronuts with Chocolate Caramel Glaze
A few months ago I posted about how to make easy homemade cronuts with an orange-vanilla glaze. I tried them again with a chocolate caramel glaze that tastes a little bit like a Tootsie Roll and gives that shiny shell just like you get at the donut shop. Delicious!
To make them, you can check out my easy homemade cronut tutorial here, then follow the glaze recipe below and dip them in. Enjoy!
Recipe: Chocolate Caramel Glaze for Donuts or Cronuts
makes enough to cover 8-10 donuts/cronuts
INGREDIENTS:
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 Tblsp butter
- 3 Tblsp heavy cream
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/4 cup semisweet chocolate chips
METHOD:
- Put sugar in a stainless steel or ceramic pot (not black) and add enough water to make a wet sandy mixture.
- Heat sugar and water over medium high heat until it caramelizes and turns a medium amber color. You may swirl the pan gently a little bit but DO NOT STIR AT ANY TIME DURING THE PROCESS.
- As soon as the sugar is amber, quickly turn off the heat and add butter and cream. Be careful as the caramel will bubble up and spit a little bit. Stir gently to mix butter and sugar in. You may need to turn the heat on low to get everything to recombine.
- When smooth, remove from heat and whisk in salt and chocolate until completely combined.
- Glaze will begin to set right away so use immediately or reheat before use to re-melt and smooth. Carefully dip tops of donuts or cronuts in glaze to cover. Glaze will set at room temperature almost immediately.
